Chapter 1.: Holidays Galore!
The beauty of summer had arrived once again, transforming the world from a dull and grey shade to a vibrant spectrum of colors, holidays... and most significantly, ICE CREAM! In this pleasant atmosphere of joy, Karan Dev lived an extremely normal life as a thirteen-year-old teenager in India. After enduring the horror named school for a year, his school year finally came to a stop, and Karan felt on Cloud Nine!
“Alright! See you in a month, Omkar. Until then, farewell,” said Karan to his friend as he walked home from school. He seemed to have sudden bursts of energy as he muttered to himself about the enjoyable things he would do this summer. *I’m gonna have a blast of a time!* Karan thought to himself. He found himself at home soon, completely absorbed in his thoughts.
“Welcome back, Karan! How was your last day of school?” enquired his mother. Karan responded, “Oh, it was brilliant! I feel extremely free!” He realized that he had set a mission for himself: to try to lucid dream at least once during this holiday.
He was completely focused on achieving this feat, which would help him escape reality in his dreams. For starters, lucid dreams are dreams where the dreamer is aware that they are dreaming and can control the dream. Achieving this requires intense concentration and imagination while sleeping. It is one of the most powerful abilities a person can possess, allowing them to step out of their creative boundaries and explore a world so enthralling!
The day went quite slowly for Karan, who imagined it to be a rest day from the school life he had been dealing with. As a way of calming his mind, Karan decided to take a nice and peaceful walk to his swimming class in the evening. He arrived shortly and jumped into the pool. For Karan, swimming was a passion and a way of refreshing himself from the daily humdrum, although it could be quite tiring if he had to swim laps around the pool at his coach’s instruction.
Unfortunately for Karan, today was one of those ‘lap’ days. After a tiring swim, he changed back into his clothes and started walking home. Despite it being 7:00 p.m., the sun was shining brilliantly. Birds were returning to their nests, ready to end the day.
He returned home quickly and saw that his father had also arrived. “Oh, hello there, father! I see you were released from the office quite early today, that’s nice!” said Karan. “Yeah, my sector is not that busy currently. It feels rather wonderful to have less work for once,” replied his father.
They all proceeded to have dinner soon. Karan’s mother had prepared a delicious meal since his father was quite free that evening. “That was a feast and a half, thanks!” said Karan to his mother, who smiled at him. The time passed by quickly. Karan wished his
parents goodnight and headed to his room. He remembered to concentrate thoroughly before sleep, focusing on the idea of lucid dreaming.
As he lay in bed, his thoughts began to drift, the rhythmic buzz of the ceiling fan fading into the background. He tried various techniques he'd read about: focusing on a single thought, imagining a specific place, and repeating to himself, "I will know I am dreaming."
Suddenly, Karan felt a strange sensation, as if he were floating. The next moment, he was falling… falling deep down… so deep it felt like it was twice the size of the Mariana Trench! It was a humongous ravine, and Karan was amazed yet terrified.
*Where am I?* Karan questioned himself, looking around. He was surrounded by a surreal landscape. The sky was a swirl of colors he had never seen before, and the ground below was made of what looked like giant, soft marshmallows. Karan pinched himself, and the mild sting confirmed he was indeed dreaming.
Excitement surged through him as he realized he had achieved his goal. He was lucid dreaming! *I can do anything here!* he thought. He willed himself to fly and immediately felt himself lift off the ground, soaring into the fantastical sky. He laughed, the sound echoing in the dreamscape.
He flew over mountains made of candy and oceans of liquid gold, exploring the limits of his imagination. He encountered talking animals, met historical figures, and even had a duel with a dragon, emerging victorious with a simple thought.
Karan’s adventures were endless. He created entire worlds, each more magical than the last. He visited a castle in the clouds, where he was crowned king and held a grand feast. He dived into an underwater city, where he swam with mermaids and discovered hidden treasures.
As the dream continued, Karan found himself at a crossroads. In front of him stood two doors. One was ornate, with intricate carvings and shimmering lights; the other was plain and unassuming. Curious, Karan chose the ornate door first.
He entered a room filled with mirrors, each reflecting different versions of himself: a brave warrior, a wise sage, a playful child. Each reflection smiled at him, encouraging him to explore all facets of his personality.
Feeling a sense of fulfillment, Karan moved to the plain door. Inside, he found a tranquil garden, where he saw his family and friends. They welcomed him with open arms, reminding him of the importance of his real life and the people who cared for him.
The dream began to fade, and Karan felt himself being pulled back to reality. He woke up with a start, the morning sun filtering through his window. He lay there for a moment, a broad smile on his face. He had done it. He had experienced a lucid dream and discovered a new realm of possibilities.
Karan got out of bed, feeling invigorated. He knew that the summer ahead would be filled with even more adventures, both in his dreams and in reality. And with that thought, he stepped into the new day, ready to make the most of every moment.
